Max is an adorable cat – but he’s weird.

Weird how, you may ask?

Max is weird because he likes most kinds of fruit. Max especially likes watermelon, cantaloupe, white peaches, bananas and cherries. Unless I give him his own plate of fruit, I will not receive any peace while eating my fruit.

So, when I prepare a fruit bowl for Michael and I, I also make a small plate for Max. He receives his first and it’s like handing a bowl of ice cream to a child. Max is in his eating area just as the plate is placed there. He at first licks up all the juice and then begins to eat the pieces of fruit.

When Max is done eating he will saunter through the living room and will find a place to take a nap. He pays no mind to me and Michael as we eat our fruit bowls.

Now, if I had not prepared Max his own plate, he would be in my lap attempting to do a face plant into my fruit. I would have to move my bowl from hand to hand, hold it up in the air over my head or hand it off to Michael. Or, just chop a piece of bite size pieces for Max and allow him to eat out of my hand. However, it is easier to prepare a plate for him and get him started first.

Doesn’t this sound just like having children? I can remember meal times when I was a child and the parents would feed the children first and then they would eat.

Another thing weird about Max is that he doesn’t eat any kind of meat nor does he like canned cat food. Michael has given Max scraps of chicken, beef, pork and tuna fish and Max will sniff at it, might even take a taste, but leaves the majority of the scrape on his plate.

Now Spike, my dearly departed cat, would eat all kinds of meat pieces but would very rarely eat fruit.

As for “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” I have made it to chapter nine. I had thought by today I would have been up to chapter 20 but I need to make house cleaning less of a priority and get my eyes back to the book.

I saw my psychiatrist yesterday and he has increased my dosage of propranolol by 30 mg to handle the tremors of the hands and flushes up my body and sweating which is caused by my taking of imipramine. The imipramine (brand name is inderal) was increased by 50 mg to minimize anxiety. I can happily report that depression and suicidal thoughts have not come back since I had the electroconvulsive therapy. Unless anything happens and I need to call him before then, I will see him in a month’s time and report on how I am doing. His primary concern was to get my anxiety under control since it could lead me back to depression.

I want to thank all of you who had written to me about having a colonoscopy. The pre-op was definitely the worst part (I practically lived in the bathroom) and the actual procedure was a breeze. I was somewhat awake because I can remember seeing some of my colon. However, when I was more coherent I found myself back in the recovery area and being offered something to drink. The best part was to be told my exam was normal and I won’t need to have this exam again until 10 years have passed. Let’s see, I will be in my sixties by then. Hooray!

That man of mine was an absolute doll. I say this because he works nights and he got up in time to drive me (I had to have a driver especially for my return home) to and from the doctor’s office. On top of that he made me a light meal of toast and scrambled eggs before heading off to bed for a three-hour nap before heading off to work again.

Still under the influence of the anesthesia I ate my light meal and then took a nap myself.

Well, I guess this is it for now; I do have a few things to do before calling it a day.

Small Joys in the World

Wednesday – June 12, 2002

Waxing moon in Cancer
Second day of lunar cycle

One I forgot to write about yesterday was receiving the Fountain Pen Hospital catalog. As I can’t remember how to code this, here is the link:

http://www.fountainpenhospital.com/

If you like fountain pens, you will love this catalog. Right now I’m writing with Uniball’s Vision Exact in pink and purple ink and I do like writing with them. However, my standby, my favorite is fountain pens.

I own five to date. Two of them are Harley-Davidson-themed pens and the rest a variety from Waterman to Sheaffer. I love how the nibs glide over the paper like newly sharpened skate blades on ice or a hot knife in butter.

The main problem I find with using fountain pens is paper weight. Some paper is so porous it sucks up the ink like a thirsty woman in the desert. So the ink comes through to the other side and you go through ink like there was no tomorrow. Me, I like to be a bit more conservative.

Anyway, I’d go into this more about my favorite pens but I left the catalog at work and my memory isn’t that good tonight.

It’s been kind of a blah night for me. A bit of depression has set in and I’m not feeling up to par. Michael being the kind man that he is rubbed my feet and that at least made me smile.

So I’m off to bed and hope I feel better tomorrow.

An Apology is in Order

I want to apologize to my readers, friends and family for not responding in a timely fashion to your e-mails and comments on my entries at Words of Mine. This reading frenzy and keeping up with the housework has kept me from getting on the computer. It’s as Bex at Crow Cottage, Actually wrote to me that with her transcription work of typing, proofing and editing that by the time the day is over her eyes are not up for reading. So, with that my plan is to respond to everyone’s e-mail and get caught up on my e-mail.

On top of that when I checked e-mail today I had over 160 posts and that is minus the spam that gets through occasionally. And, here’s a rant I have about e-mail is that I have set myself up on the notify list so that I know the notification went out. My gripe is that my notify ends up with the spam mail and this is after every time I find it there I mark it as not spam. It does no good because each and every notification ends up in the spam. Some things can just make you go grrrr.

Today was another busy day since I needed to wash the kitchen and downstairs’ bathroom floors. Luckily these two floors as well as the upstairs’ bathroom floor are the easiest floors to take care of. What gets me is that the kitchen floor is always a mess and I do this floor every week. I mean it is just me, Michael and Max. How can a floor get so dirty and this is after sweeping, using my Swiffer dusting cloth and then my Swiffer wet cloth to wash the floor. I can’t complain because the Swiffer products make the chore so much easier.

Also on the calendar today is my appointment for a manicure. Today I chose a midnight blue color and it is very striking. The manicurist painted on my pinkie fingers a small white flower with a dash of a lighter blue on the petals and a touch of sparkle at the edge of my nail. Quite fun and that man of mine liked it as well when he returned home from work.

To finish off the day I met my sponsor for coffee prior to the Friday night Al-Anon meeting. This was fun and I treated myself to an iced caramel macchiato. I hadn’t had one of these before and though it wasn’t what I had expected, it was very good. All the while the two of us are chatting about this and that we realized that it was time to leave for the meeting. We decided that for tonight we would stay put because we were enjoying our conversation. We covered a myriad of topics as well as chuckling over the fun stuff in our lives. After a couple of hours we decided it was time to head for the homestead and so we did.

The night had become foggy and misty. I arrived home and Max was much pleased and was ready for me to sit down and give him some loving. After that I made myself some dinner thanks to Michael and I settled in to watch some television.

Commode Update

Well the new commode is working fine. The noticeable change is that the flush handle is on the left side instead of the right. Plus the lid is quite heavy and I wouldn’t want to fall on me.

On another note, that man of mine woke me up this morning with a smile on his face. The reason was he had passed the kidney stone that had begun to bother him over the weekend. He had me take a look at it and boy howdy, it was huge and jagged. Since I’ve been with Michael he has passed several of these stones and this seems the biggest of all of them. No wonder he feels terrible when a stone makes the choice to leave the nest.

Mind you, this all took place around the 6:30 a.m. hour. It is early for me since I don’t usually wake up until after 8:30 a.m. As luck would have it, we both fell asleep and I didn’t wake up again until 8:45 a.m. Michael didn’t wake up until 2 p.m.

I got up and took care of Max’s needs and I took my medications and then meditated. Funny thing about meditating, I’ve noticed that I keep leaning forward. This position is uncomfortable. I straighten up and before I know it there I was leaning forward again. But the nice thing is that 30 minutes went by before I knew it.

I followed meditation with my spiritual readings. I was several days behind and had lots of reading to catch up on.

I also did some artwork in my journal and did some writing with a narrow nib calligraphy pen. It is fun dipping my nib into black ink and to write until it begins to skip in ink. I know a little calligraphy and it fun to use these pens. I also have a glass pen that Michael gifted me with one Yule. I have some dragon blood ink I use with this pen. The nip of this pen is large and so my writing is large.

After all of this, I grabbed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I’m now three-fourths of the way through. I ought to finish it tomorrow, yea!!!!! I am glad I’m reading these first books because there is much I had forgotten.

For excitement I drove into town to see my talk therapist. The day was warm and sunny. I had good music on my stereo and fresh air in my hair. The day could not be any better. The session went okay and then I was on my way home again.

The rest of the day was spent doing laundry, vacuuming the steps to the upstairs, empty the dishwasher and washing the bathroom floor upstairs. I’m glad the day is done and I can read some more and watch a little television.

When I last wrote I had just received my copy of the last book of Harry Potter. I was all set to begin the book when I realized I couldn’t remember a lot of the first six books. So I decided to start from the beginning and read the books consecutively until I reached the seventh book.

Doing it this way means I need to stay away from other sites because the writers have read the book and are ready to discuss the final ending of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

To date, I’m half way through book three and reading as fast and as much as I can. I do have my days where I can read the entire day away but then there are the others where life does step in.

Like today, I had a consult with the doctor who will be doing my colonoscopy set for next week. Oh the joys of getting older. This procedure is one I can honestly say I’m not looking forward to it.

Another life event was the toilet seat in our downstairs’ bathroom broke. We spoke to the landlord about it and we thought we were going to get a new seat. Wrong on that one, he has decided to replace both the upstairs’ and downstairs’ toilets. The upstairs’ one was replaced today. The downstairs’ one he’s waiting to get an almond colored commode which will come from out of town since he can’t get one in town for a reasonable price. With his coming an going as set me on in with his being in the house; in other words, his energy is not as positive as it could be.

Other than that the cat and Michael are doing well and we are all looking forward to the weekend.
