Okay, let me back up a month to February 27. On that date I had an appointment with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to make the name change on my driver’s license. I had my documentation, signed on the dotted line and wrote a check out for the fee of this transaction. The only thing was I forgot to ask how long before I would received my new license.
Days went by and after a week and a half I wanted to chew on my fingernails. Where was that license? So much was waiting for that identification. Finally, yesterday it arrived in the mail.
I didn’t open the envelope immediately. I don’t know why this was but I did other things prior to opening my prize. When I finally opened the envelope, my jaw dropped, a few choice words were emitted by me and I became angry, frustrated and irritated. Looking at my new license I see that DMV has given me the exact copy of my previous license and not the one with my new name. By this time it is too late to call anyone to chew them out.
Now I am a fairly level-headed person and I know that by being angry at a person is not necessarily going to achieve the end result I want. I talked with Michael about this situation and slept on it.
As luck would have it, I awoke early and I was on a mission. I was ready to head out the door but Michael had suggested that I call first to see if the situation could be handled over the phone instead of just heading into SLO-town. Okay, I called the office and the gentleman I talked with heard my woes and his advice was to take all my documentation to the nearest DMV office and explain the situation to them. I decided to not make an appointment and would take my chance and just appearing in the office. I even brought along a book in the event I would have a wait.
It was still within the 8 a.m. hour – how busy could an office be at that hour? I drove in and did not speed. I arrived at the office before 9 a.m. and went to the “Start Here” window and was given the number three and was told to wait. I had not even sit down when my number was called.
I went to window 16 and explained to the woman seated there and she was very apologetic to me for their error. I had to fill out another form for correction and she showed me where to sign with my current new name. I was told no fee was necessary since it was their error, given a new interim license and my new license would arrive within two to three weeks. Okay, I can live with this.
Arriving at home I called my place of employ (even though I’m on disability, I still have health benefits there) to learn whether or not my interim license would work on making the name change on my benefits. The human resources person said to just send a copy of my social security card to her and she could begin making the changes and send a copy of my driver’s license once I receive that.
Luck was with me because I made the copy of my SSN card, addressed an envelope with a stamp and out the door just as the mail lady was at our box. So my SSN card should arrive on Monday and within so many days I ought to be known to the health benefit company as Mrs. Michael. Yea and I didn’t lose my cool.
Good things do come to those who keep their cool.

Happy-claps for you, Em. It’s so rare that things go smoothly like that!
I liked the quote you had by Dame Edith Sitwell above today. And seeing her, you can see why she said that in the first place.
Have a nice Sunday/Easter Em & Michael & Co.

I guess I just don’t know how to put a clickable link in wordpress anymore.
I am glad things worked out for you. I wish people could get things correct on the first time around though.
