Yesterday I was filled with the ambition to make a cat house. This was upon the suggestion of an journaler friend, Bex at Crow Cottage, Actually.
Bex’s idea was to take the extra boxes I have and cut out openings, windows, doors and such and then tape the boxes together for a play area for my cats.
When I brought out the boxes both of the cats were curious as they watched me from a distance as I was in construction mode.
When I was finished, Max was the first to walk into the bottom box. He stayed there for a time with Bailey watching him. Finally Max came out and that was the end of that. For a long while neither cat seemed to care about their new abode. Although, Michael said that Max did stick his head up through the opening into the second level.
Later in the evening Michael put a couple of stuffed toys the cats play with and soon they were checking out the toys. Ultimately, they pulled the toys out of the house. Michael next put Max on the top of the house. Max went down through the opening onto the second level and out the side door on that level.
Bailey was the funniest though. He was checking out the lower level window. The next thing we saw was Bailey hurl himself through the small window only to get stuck around his middle. Michael and I couldn’t help but laugh.
Bailey and the two-level house with a patio on top begin to dance around. Another move and the house was on top of Bailey; then Bailey has pushed the house over and he’s on top. Finally, everyone is upright and Bailey has his back feet on the wall and is pushing like daises through rock-hard dirt. Before we knew it Bailey had popped his head out through the window and glared at the house.
Michael and I had such a good laugh and yes, at Bailey’s expense but it was funny.
Today, has been grooming day and Bailey is the groomer. Any time he found Max, a grooming he would go. One time I found them in the spoon position and Bailey had his paw and leg around Max and grooming the back of Max’s head. That is until Max said enough and get up and find another spot to rest in.
Life with fur children is quite amazing.

It was so much fun to read how my little suggestion turned into a fun project. I know my (former) cats would spend days observing a box I’d put under the dining room buffet for days before they’d actually inhabit it. But once they did, it was home to them for a while. So glad your fur children had fun and, hence, so did you!
I’d love to see a photo of your kitties in their cat house!
